Have you ever thought why some USB cables don’t connect to a particular device even after trying again and again? If yes, then you must read on this entire post. This happens because some USB cables are not made for some devices i.e. every device have different connectors and they must match the USB cables in order to be connected. So, what are the main types of USB Cables? There are a good number of USB types available, but not all of them are widely used. So, we are going to share the USB cables which are widely used by computer users all over the world.
How Many Types of USB Cables are Available?
As mentioned above, there are a good number of USB cables available and almost each and every USB cable type has a different function. Some of them are compatible with the newer devices and some of them aren’t. So, the following are the main types of USB cables:
1. USB Cable Type-A
Almost 75-80% USB cables have the type-A connector on their one end. This type of connector normally exists in the devices like keyboards and mouses. All the tech devices like computers and power adaptors use the Type-A to support both the data transfer and charging from one device to another. In this modern era, every computer has multiple connectors so you don’t need to worry about connectivity issues.

Type-B is another type of connector which features a square shape and widely used to connect printers and other powered devices with the computers. They are not as common as type-A which means you don’t need to worry about this. The USB Cables which comes with a Type-B connector also has a Type-A connector on one end so that they can be connected with a computer.
3. Micro USB
In this modern era, the Micro USB type is used by almost each and every mobile and portable device operator. You can see them on every mobile charger. This is the reason behind why mobile charges have a long USB connected to the charging adaptor. The adaptor is connected using a Type-A or Type-B connector and that’s how it transfers the energy from the electricity socket to your mobile phone.
4. Mini USB
Before the Micro USB came into action, Mini USB type connector was used by almost every mobile phone. It is quite smaller in size as compared to the Micro USB cables. Because of this, the tech giants decided to improve this by inventing a new USB cable type. This gave birth to the Micro USB type cable, but Mini USB cables are still in use in some of the cameras which don’t have a standard connector.
5. USB Cable Type-C
USB Cable Type-C is a new and updated version of all the USB cables which we have discussed earlier. They have higher power and data transfer rate as compared to the previous types of USB cables. The USB Cable Type-C is adopted for the latest mobile phones and laptops. However, they provide best data transfer and charging speed, but this would not be possible in case when the connected device’s components aren’t compatible with the USB cable Type-C.
