What is an IPSW file you wonder? You might have come across this extension while updating your iTunes or a system update on your iPhone. It is a new file extension introduced by Apple Inc. which relates to their Device Software Update for iPhone, iPad, Apple Tv or iPod. Basically, an IPSW file is an archive containing DMG, PLISTs, IM4Ps files inside them. How to Check If an IPSW file is corrupted?

As we discussed earlier that IPSW files are nothing but archives containing other files. So if you want to check whether your file is corrupted or not, try to open it in WinRAR or 7 zip. If the contents of IPSW files ger extracted successfully, then it’s not corrupted at all. However, if you experience any issues or errors while extracting using any unarchive program, then there are chances that the file is corrupt and you have to download it again.

iTunes Is Not Recognizing IPSW Update Files

If the downloaded update is not working, or iTunes showing error messages that it cant verify the downloaded update, then there are chances that download files got corrupted. To fix that you need to download the update again. However, iTunes won’t downloads the file again until and unless you delete the previous one. To delete the downloaded update, simply go the folder where the updates are being downloaded and delete the IPSW file corresponding to it.

How To Convert An IPSW File To Other Format

Although there are not many reasonable excuses to change the file format of IPSW files, you can do it if you wish you do so by changing its extension or achieving it into another file format, for, e.g., RAR, TAR, TZ, etc. But if you change the file format, then iTunes won’t be able to verify it as an official update.
